Parotid tumors are the growths of abnormal cells that form in the salivary gland, this is a very rare type of tumor.

Three major types of salivary gland is located under and behind your jaw, this tumor can form in any one of your salivary glands.

Parotid tumor treatment is usually with surgery to remove the tumor, some patients might need additional treatments.

Symptoms for Parotid Tumor:

Signs and symptoms for parotid tumor may include,

  • Swelling or a lump near your jaw or in your mouth or neck
  • Numbness in some part of your face
  • Weakness in muscle on one side of your face
  • Persistent pain of salivary gland
  • Difficulty in swallowing
  • Troubling in opening the mouth widely

Causes for Parotid Tumor:

Parotid tumor form when some cells in the salivary gland develops changes in their DNA, which contains the instructions that tell a cell what to do.

This changes instruct the cells to grow and divide rapidly. The healthy cells would die whereas the abnormal cells will go on living and form a tumor by accumulating cells.

Types of Parotid Tumors:

Many types of salivary gland tumors exist. Based on the type of cells involved in the tumors, doctors classify salivary gland tumor.

Types of benign (noncancerous) salivary gland tumors includes:

  • Pleomorphic adenoma
  • Canalicular adenoma
  • Oncocytoma
  • Warthin tumor

Types of malignant (cancerous salivary gland tumors include:

  • Acinic cell carcinoma
  • Adenocarcinoma
  • Clear cell carcinoma
  • Salivary duct carcinoma
  • Squamous cell carcinoma

Treatment for Parotid Tumor:
