Reduction of Fracture Nasal Bone:
If the break has displaced the cartilage and bones in your nose, our doctor may be able to realign them manually. This should be done within 14 days from the fracture.
During this procedure, our doctor may do the following:
- Administers medications by nasal spray or injection to avoid discomfort.
- Opens your nostrils with a nasal speculum.
- Special instruments are used to realign your broken cartilage and bones.
- Your nose will be packed, and a dressing is placed on the outside. The doctor will also splint your nose.
- Sometimes, it is necessary to place an internal splint for a short period.
What can you Expect after Surgery?
You will be given a prescription for antibiotics to prevent bacterial infections that generally resides in your nose.
Multiple breaks left untreated for more than 14 days may not qualify for manual realignment. In such cases, surgery to reshape your nose and realign the bones may be necessary.
In case the break has damaged your nasal septum, causing difficulty or obstruction in breathing, our doctor may recommend reconstructive surgery.
